VIDEO: Man explains why children see mothers as irreplaceable and fathers as absent

After a Nigerian man shared his thoughts on why many children perceive their mothers as irreplaceable while viewing fathers as absent or irrelevant, discussions have ignited online.

He stated that the conversation began when he encountered a post saying, “Mothers are irreplaceable.” With curiosity, he mentioned that he inquired of the woman who posted whether her dad was also one of a kind.

“She said yes, because the mother carries the pregnancy, gives birth, breastfeeds the child, and nurtures the child,”he explained.

The man contended that this mentality is prevalent due to the fact that mothers visibly fulfill their roles, whereas fathers often do so out of sight.

He observed that when children are unwell, they see their mother caring for them.

Many fathers provide money for school fees or clothes through their wives, creating the impression that the mother is handling everything.

“Children believe what they see. The school fees na their mama dem dey see pay am, the clothes na their mama dem dey see buy am,”he said.

He believes that the majority of mothers do not invest time in clarifying to their children that it is the father who is working hard, providing, and ensuring their future behind the scenes.

He suggested that fathers should cease to fulfill their roles indirectly via their wives. Rather, they should be present when paying for school fees, purchasing clothes, and directly managing responsibilities in order to make their contributions evident.

The post elicited numerous reactions. A commentator noted, “You lied. My mother took care of us and we still give credit to our father.” Another said, “True. Children only remember what they see.”
