A 26-year-old man, Emmanuel Adoga, from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, has been arrested over the alleged rape of a woman and a demand for N15,000 from the survivor.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 9, 2026, while the suspect was arrested on October 12, three days after the survivor’s father submitted a petition to the police.
According to the police, the petition further alleged that Adoga assaulted the woman and forcefully took her Infinix Smart 7 mobile phone.
The command disclosed that the stolen phone had been recovered, while officers visited the scene of the alleged crime and obtained photographic and electronic evidence.
Police also alleged that the suspect threatened the survivor with a hammer presented as a firearm.
The survivor has undergone a medical examination and is currently receiving treatment, according to the police statement.
The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to investigating allegations of sexual violence and other serious offences in line with due process.
He urged members of the public to report criminal incidents without delay and warned against sharing information that could expose survivors of sexual violence to identification or further emotional trauma.
