The Lagos State Police Command has taken four officers into custody after a video showing them allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, went viral.

The command has also ordered the disbandment of the entire tactical team involved.

The police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, revealed this in a statement on Friday, explaining that investigations into the trending footage led to the identification of the officers as members of the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team in Ikorodu.

According to Adebisi, the officers were summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday, where the decision to detain them was made.

“The verdict was that these officers would be detained immediately, pending disciplinary proceedings. Also, the entire team will be disbanded,” she said.

The command’s spokesperson added that all four officers were being held and would face disciplinary measures. She explained that three of them were presented at the command headquarters in Ikeja, while the fourth remained in custody but was not paraded.

“They are presently here at the headquarters for further inquiries, and I want to assure members of the public that we will take appropriate actions against them,” she added.

Adebisi said the Commissioner of Police had warned that misconduct and abuse of authority would not be tolerated, urging officers to perform their duties with integrity and humility.

The command also expressed appreciation to members of the community for helping identify the officers promptly and encouraged residents to continue reporting cases of police misconduct.
