Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has outlined a possible condition that could influence the Southwest’s support for an Igbo president in the future.
Soludo stated that if the Southeast backs President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, the Southwest could reciprocate by supporting an Igbo presidency when the opportunity arises.
Speaking to his followers in a video, the governor said: “Presidency is about discussion and agreement.
“Now that President Tinubu, from the South-West, is in power, if we in the South-East support him, then when power returns to the South after going to the North, the South-West will support an Igbo presidency.”
The Southeast has long advocated for the opportunity to produce Nigeria’s president.
In the 2023 presidential election, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi contested for the position but did not emerge victorious.
Obi contested under the Labour Party (LP) and finished third in the election.
However, he maintained that he had won the poll but was denied victory.
