The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Yobe State University has officially ended its industrial action following a resolution with the state government. In a letter dated July 29, 2025, and signed by the branch chairperson, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, the union cited the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yobe State Government as the basis for calling off the strike.
“Following the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yobe government today 29th July, 2025 with our union and subsequent transmission of the MoU to president of ASUU by the zonal coordinator, the president has granted approval to call off the strike action as agreed in the last congress meeting of 25th July, 2025,” the letter read
The strike, which commenced on July 11, 2025, has now officially ended. The union requested all academic staff to return to work, reciprocating the government’s commitment to make up for the two weeks lost during the strike action.
“All academic staff are hereby requested to return to work to reciprocate the commitment by Yobe State government to make up the two (2) weeks lost for the strike action,” the union added.
Although the details of the MoU were not disclosed, the ASUU branch expressed optimism about the government’s commitment to resolving outstanding issues. The development marks a significant step forward for both students and staff after weeks of uncertainty caused by the industrial disruption
