Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi could face suspension from Turkish football authorities ahead of Besiktas’s Super Lig match against Antalyaspor next weekend.
If the former Leicester City midfielder receives a yellow card in Sunday’s Istanbul derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, he will face a one-match suspension.
According to Turkish Super Lig regulations, any player who accumulates four yellow cards during the season is automatically subjected to a one-match suspension.
So far this campaign, Ndidi has three cautions to his name, making him walk a tightrope.
His initial booking occurred during his league debut versus Eyüpspor, after which he received bookings against Göztepe and Kasımpaşa.
Ndidi has been a fixture in manager Sergen Yalçın’s lineup, starting 20 out of the 21 matches he has been available for this season.
He was on international duty with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which caused him to miss the December match against Rizespor.
Upon his return to Istanbul, he was sidelined due to an injury sustained in Morocco, missing consecutive matches against Kayserispor and Eyüpspor in January. The following month, he was given compassionate leave.
This season in Turkey, fellow Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen have already faced bans due to accumulating yellow cards.
