Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, is set to award 1,000 scholarships to students in Kano Central and Kano South Senatorial Districts. The scholarships, facilitated through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), will enable students to pursue ICT-related degree programs.

Seven new study centres of Federal University, Dutsin-ma, will be established in Kano Central and South Senatorial Districts, thanks to Senator Barau’s intervention. The study centres will offer degree and diploma programs, including ICT-related courses.

“Education is the bedrock of national development. I will continue to work towards providing quality education for our people across the 44 LGAs,” Senator Barau stated.

This initiative builds on Senator Barau’s previous efforts in Kano North Senatorial District, where he facilitated the establishment of four study centres, benefiting over 1,000 students.

The new study centres will be located in Madobi, Kiru, Tudun Wada, Rano, Gaya, Dawakin Kudu, and Minjibir local government areas. To mark their launch, Senator Barau is awarding scholarships to 1,000 students from Kano Central and South to pursue ICT-related courses.

According to a statement from Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Senator Barau and the university management finalised plans for the study centres over the weekend. The university was represented at the meeting by Prof. Abubakar Sadik Suleiman, Dean of the Faculty of Management Science and board member of the College of Professional and Continuing Studies, along with Dr. Jamilu Ajiya, Acting Provost of the College of Professional and Continuing Studies.

This development is part of Senator Barau’s efforts to expand access to higher education in Kano State. As the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Barau has been a strong advocate for education and human development in the region.

The establishment of the new study centres and the award of scholarships are expected to have a positive impact on the educational landscape in Kano State, providing opportunities for young people to acquire skills and knowledge in ICT-related fields.
