The Nigerian military announced on Monday that it is closing in on notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, and plans to eliminate him from his hideout soon.

In a statement, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, the Chief of Defence Operations, confirmed that the military is actively tracking Turji, and his capture is imminent.

Onumajuru made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s morning show, The Morning Brief.

He revealed that the military has pinpointed Turji’s current location.

He said: “First, I need to let you know that there is absolutely no back and forth between Bello Turji and the armed forces.

“As I speak, Bello Turji is in hiding, completely in hiding, and the armed forces are tracking him. The armed forces continuously track him, and very soon, he will be eliminated.”

The Major General acknowledged that tracking down bandit leaders can be a time-consuming process but reassured the public that Turji’s elimination is imminent.

This development coincides with statements from Sokoto State lawmaker, Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza, who confirmed Turji’s presence in the state.

Boza stated that the bandit leader is hiding in a forest in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The lawmaker, who represents the Sabon Birni Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, added that Turji has been imposing taxes on the residents in the area.
