Governor Hyacinth Alia has claimed that George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, lacks the power to determine his political future or that of Benue residents in relation to the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.
Alia stressed that his prospects for a second term would depend exclusively on his track record, credibility, and past performance, and she expressed confidence that the electorate would evaluate him based on these factors.
His Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, communicated this position in reply to remarks made by Titus Zam, who had implied that the state’s residents would look to Akume for guidance concerning the 2027 elections.
The governor stated that the final decision rests with the people, rather than with any single political figure.
“What will determine direction for the 2027 general elections in Benue is purely performance and pedigree.
“Those who betrayed the people that voted them into power; those who failed woefully to deliver on their mandate; those who preferred to worship emperors than fulfil their covenant with the people will face judgment from the people.
“No emperor can decide any election for the people. Alia is diligently and meticulously keeping his covenant with the people, and the people are there, much aware of developments around them to pass their verdict,” Alia’s spokesman stated.
