Renowned “marching ground” gangster David Yaikyo has been taken into custody in Makurdi by the Benue State Taskforce on Illegal Levies and Criminality.
After allegedly requesting N300,000 as a “marching ground fee” from a building site, Yaikyo, a resident of the Ajaba settlement across from Makurdi International Market, was taken into custody.
Reports state that Taskforce officers made the arrest after reacting quickly to a distress call.
Yaikyo allegedly admitted to the crime during questioning before being turned over to the Makurdi Police Area Command for arrest and prosecution.
Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Senior Special Assistant on Youth Organization and Illegal Levies, Hon. Gbenda Terver, denounced the act and cautioned young people against participating in it, emphasizing that those who do so will be held accountable.
Additionally, he asked locals to assist the taskforce by reporting any suspicious activity via its hotline, 07063894788.
