The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has released a statement to elucidate its structure and operations, underscoring that it operates as one national entity with its headquarters located in Abuja, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

As stated by CAN, its activities are structured through officially acknowledged branches as outlined in Article 8(2)(1)(A–D) of its 2021 Constitution (with amendments), which comprise: Zonal offices
State branches, which encompass the FCT Local government branches
Branches at the district/ward unit level

The association issued a statement on Wednesday warning the public that it does not operate under any divisions called “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN.” CAN observed that any person or group asserting such titles is breaching its Constitution, particularly Article 8(3)(6). This article forbids the use of the CAN name or acronym by anyone not officially recognized by CAN’s National Executive Council.

CAN further emphasized its dedication to unity, referencing its motto from John 17:21, “That they may be one.” The association called on the public to avoid any interaction with unauthorized CAN entities, cautioning that continued use or support of the names “Northern CAN,” “Southern CAN,” or any other variations could result in legal consequences for infringing upon the organization’s constitutional rights.

As obtained by ZINGTIE, the statement was signed by senior leaders of CAN, including His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh, President; Apostle Professor Samson A. Fatokun, General Secretary; and bloc heads from the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN/PEN), and the Evangelical Church Winning All (TEKAN/ECWA).

The association made a public appeal for respect for the official CAN structure and branches as outlined in its constitution.
