Demola Olarenwaju, who serves as Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Benue State, labeling it a national embarrassment.
According to Olarenwaju, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would prefer the public to quickly forget what he referred to as a disgraceful episode.
President Tinubu had traveled to Benue in response to a deadly attack in the Yelewata community, where around 200 people reportedly lost their lives following violence linked to suspected armed herders.
However, the president’s visit has drawn criticism from various quarters, with many questioning its sincerity and impact.
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, also weighed in, accusing Tinubu of using the trip for political theater rather than showing genuine concern. Obi stated that “the president chose optics over empathy.”
Reacting, Olarenwaju posted on X: “The show of shame in Benue yesterday is something the APC will quickly want us to forget, but we must not: that moment represents several depths of shame from APC.
“Skit-makers, comedians, opinion writers, public commentators, everyone must stay reminding Nigerians of this mess.”
