The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, was the target of a basic rights lawsuit brought by crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known by his stage name Bobrisky, which was dismissed by a Federal High Court in Lagos State.
ZINGTIE recalls that Bobrisky wanted N1 billion from the National Assembly for the infringement of his right to a fair hearing and sought N200 million from the EFCC for mental stress.
In addition, the crossdresser requested that the court prevent the National Assembly and the EFCC from harassing, arresting, or listing him as wanted.
After social media influencer Martins Otse released an audio recording claiming that Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to get money laundering allegations against him dropped, he became engaged in controversy.
In his ruling in the case, Justice Alexander Owoeye concluded that Bobrisky’s allegations of rights violations were baseless and unbacked up by reliable evidence.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Friday.
“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him.
“I hold that the claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not made out of the affidavit evidence placed before this Court.
“The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are accordingly dismissed,” the judge ruled.
In addition, Justice Owoeye declined to grant the EFCC damages.
