After confessing to attempted murder, a 15-year-old kid in the UK was placed under detention under the Mental Health Act for attacking his parents with a vicious axe while they were asleep.

The 16-year-old spent the night watching television and waiting for his parents to go to bed before attacking them in the early hours of the morning at their Sussex home.

He hit his father several times while he was asleep with a big double-handed axe he had stolen from the garage, resulting in defensive wounds, a brain bleed, and at least five fractures to his skull. Then he turned on his mother, cutting her face, arm, and thigh deeply, and severing a portion of her ear.

Later, the child admitted to authorities that he had been planning the attack for a while and that he thought the axe would be a “quick” weapon that would only require one stroke. He clarified that he had planned to commit suicide, had been brutally bullied, and did not want to attend school.

He wrote in a journal entry that was read aloud to Lewes Crown Court while he was in Brighton: “I have to kill my parents tonight. There’s no other way. I’ll never get better, things will never change and I don’t have a choice.”

After being taken to the hospital, both parents survived the attack. In addition to his mother’s numerous cuts and partial ear loss, his father’s head and face were slashed by six axes, leaving a piece of his skull lodged in his brain.

According to the court, the boy has both depression and autism. He appeared via video link from a guarded hospital during the hearings, while his parents, who still provide for him, sat in court among other family members.

Ryan Richter, the prosecutor, told the court that the teen had confessed to wanting to murder his parents before ending his own life in order to spare them the trauma of his suicide. He claimed that the youngster had been candid about his issues with bullying and his distaste for school.

The kid must stay in a secure hospital for treatment and public safety, according to the Honourable Mrs Justice Justine Thornton KC, who expressed her satisfaction that the boy’s acts were caused by a significant mental illness. She praised the family’s enduring affection, characterizing the boy as “a kind, thoughtful and intelligent young man who has experienced significant trauma which led to a breakdown.”

The boy’s parents had sought treatment for his mental health problems before to the incident, the court was also informed.
