The Routt County Sheriff’s Office reported that four individuals died in a plane crash on Friday morning close to the Colorado ski town of Steamboat Springs.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports that the plane went down at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Emerald Mountain’s south side. The four bodies have all been retrieved, and officials from the sheriff’s office indicate they anticipate informing the victims’ families later on Friday.

The site of the accident is shut off and designated with yellow tape, and individuals are requested to steer clear of the vicinity.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board, responsible for investigating aircraft accidents, are anticipated to arrive at the scene on Friday afternoon.

The NTSB stated that the aircraft involved was an Epic Aircraft E1000. FAA records indicate that the plane’s registration number returned to a Tennessee-based aviation company. The owner requested that the plane not be tracked on public flight tracking services.

Located approximately 165 miles northwest of Denver, Emerald Mountain lies directly west of Steamboat Springs.
