BREAKING: Emeka Anyaoku leads delegate to Tinubu to request for a new constitution for Nigeria

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, visited President Bola Tinubu on Friday. There, he and other intellectuals pushed for the creation of a new national constitution.

A new Constitution is now necessary, according to the organisation operating under The Patriot’s auspices, in order to address the ongoing issues plaguing the nation.

Anyaoku asserts that the current constitution is incapable of leading the nation to the promised land and that it bears some of the blame for the social and economic problems that the nation is currently facing.

Following their meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House on Friday, the group spoke to State House Correspondents.

Along with Senator Ben Obi, Segun Osoba, Mike Ozekhome, Labaran Maku, and Senator Shehu Sani, the group that escorted Anyaoku to the Presidential Villa was also composed of these individuals.

They said that in order to set up a constituent assembly and require its creation of a new Constitution that would take into account the country’s plurality, President Tinubu ought to forward a presidential bill to the National Assembly immediately.

A national referendum on the proposed constitution should be held in order to provide the people with a new document that addresses many of the nation’s problems.

The organisation stated that the country’s problems might be solved by the new constitution, which could be presented in nine months.
