President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate distribution of around 100,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits nationwide to help alleviate the severe effects of the rising Middle East conflict on Nigerian commuters.
This directive is one of the Federal Government’s initiatives aimed at cutting transport expenses and broadening alternative energy choices in reaction to the escalating costs of petrol and diesel due to the ongoing US–Israel war with Iran.
After meeting with Tinubu, Ismaeel Ahmed, Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), revealed to journalists the President’s directive.
Ahmed stated that the President is attentively observing worldwide developments and their repercussions for Nigeria’s energy expenses, especially the influence of the Middle East conflict on fuel prices and transport.
He clarified that the kits, which will be shared through collaboration with various partners, will allow vehicle owners, tricycle operators included, to convert their engines to operate on gas.
