In an attempt to increase military levels, Moscow officials are providing new recruits to fight in Ukraine with a historically large signing bonus.
The action is the most recent sign, according to CNN, that Russia is having trouble finding soldiers for its continuing invasion of Ukraine.
The story claims that Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has now declared a one-time bonus for city dwellers who join the military, worth 1.9 million rubles, or around $22,000.
According to Sobyanin’s declaration, President Vladimir Putin’s military operations are being supported and new recruits are being drawn in by the significant financial incentive.
“Anyone taking up the offer would earn as much as 5.2 million rubles ($59,600) in their first year of service.
“Those willing to join the fight in Ukraine can also receive one-time cash payments of about $5,690-$11,390 for injuries, “depending on the severity,” and the family of a soldier killed in action could be paid $34,150”.
