Public affairs analyst and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Habib Dawanan, has claimed that Governor Abba Yusuf is under pressure to appoint Murtala Garo as the deputy governor of Kano State.
Dawanan made this assertion in a recent statement.
He alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is exerting pressure on Governor Yusuf to appoint Garo as deputy governor.
Describing the alleged move as a “direct assault on the rule of law,” Dawanan warned that appointing an embattled candidate to the state’s second-highest office would grant constitutional immunity and stall ongoing criminal trials.
Dawanan called Garo’s nomination a “glaring double standard,” especially considering the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam.
“It appears to be a calculated attempt to secure backdoor immunity for the accused,” the statement read, cautioning that such a move would “ridicule the office of the governor and compromise the integrity of the legislature.”
He urged President Tinubu to allow Governor Yusuf the freedom to select a deputy without external pressure, emphasizing that “the soul of governance and the sanctity of institutions must remain paramount.”
Recall that after leaving the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) for the APC, Aminu Abdulsalam resigned as deputy governor.
