BREAKING: Supreme Court declares Fubara duly elected Rivers governor

The Supreme Court has proclaimed Siminalayi Fubara as the legitimately elected governor of Rivers State.

Patrick Tonye-Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee for governor of Rivers State in the 2023 elections, has contested Fubara’s success in the survey.

It was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, that Fubara had won.

The Supreme Court’s five-member panel has officially affirmed Fubara’s election victory.

Shortly after rejecting Tonye-Cole’s appeal as unjust and incompetent, the panel upheld Fubara’s election in the main decision written by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa.

Saulawa claims that the appellant failed to substantiate his claims of excessive voting, noncompliance, and Fubara’s ineligibility to run in the election.

Justice Saulawa declared, “This appeal is grossly lacking in merit and liable to be dismissed, and it is accordingly dismissed.”

The concurrent rulings of the two lower courts, which had previously rejected the appeal for lack of merit, were later upheld by the Supreme Court.
