Using the platform of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), prominent supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and denied rumors of a planned defection.
Several political heavyweights, including former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, former Speaker and former Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari, retired General Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Radda, and Niger State Governor’s representative Umar Bago, were among the group that met in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas representatives, former lawmaker Farouk Adamu, former Voice of Nigeria (VoN) DG Osita Okechukwu; ex-presidential aide Okoi Obono-Obla; former APC National Secretary Arc. Waziri Bulama, and Foreign Affairs Minister Maitama Tuggar were among the other important attendees.
The group stated in a joint statement that although politicians are allowed to follow their own goals, they cannot claim to speak for the CPC’s legacy. They made it clear that they are still devoted to the APC.
When asked about the bloc’s political affiliation going forward, Hon. Farouk Adamu said that the organization is still firmly in support of Tinubu and expressed optimism that the president will continue to guide the party into 2027.
“We are with Tinubu just like our leader Buhari was. It is our hope that Tinubu continues to remain our leader,” Adamu said.
