Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has described the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s time in office as a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s political journey.
This reflection was part of a condolence message issued on behalf of the state government to the bereaved family.
According to Governor Otu, Buhari’s tenure stood out for its rare level of discipline, deep personal commitment, and steadfast loyalty to the ideals of a united nation.
He stated that the late president led a life “etched into the soul of our country,” emphasizing that his firm demeanor and modest leadership approach left a lasting impression on the nation’s collective conscience.
“His life was a luminous tapestry of sacrifice, honour, and a quiet, enduring patriotism. Nigeria grieves, yet stands in solemn salute to a leader who bore the burdens of our collective dream with dignity,” the Governor said.
Otu noted that Buhari’s passing signified “the twilight of an era,” prompting a period of deep national reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the enduring influence of leadership.
“Though his voice is now silenced, the echoes of his service—his steadfastness, his Spartan simplicity, his unshakeable belief in the unity of Nigeria—shall resonate through generations unborn,” he added.
The governor also expressed deep sympathy to the former President’s family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large.
