Abubarkar Mohammed Dandatijo, a 45-year-old businessman, has been placed under detention at the Kirikiri Correctional Center.

The order came after he was charged with defiling an eight-year-old child in front of the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Tinubu, Lagos Island.

The local community reacted strongly to the alleged offense, which allegedly took place at 54 Baale Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

Dandatijo was charged with luring the minor into his home, where he reportedly engaged in illegal sexual activity with her, according to police findings.

He reportedly gave the youngster N50 after the incident and cautioned her against telling anyone about it.

When the girl’s mother saw behavioral changes in her daughter, the issue became apparent.

She allegedly discovered physical signs of abuse, such as blood and semen stains, after looking into it more.

The suspect, referred to as “Alhaji” in the community, was eventually recognized by the youngster as the culprit.

After neighbors confronted Dandatijo over the revelation, he allegedly confessed to the crime and asked for forgiveness.

Residents brought the issue to the attention of AIG Adegoke Fayoade, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 2 Command, out of fear that the case would be repressed.

A squad led by ASP Jeremiah Kamto arrested Dandatijo after the AIG ordered a thorough inquiry.

In violation of Sections 137 and 168(1)(d) of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law, the defendant was later charged with defilement and engaging in behavior likely to provoke a breach of the peace.

According to ASP Ibrahim Haruna, the prosecuting officer, the alleged act was carried out without the victim’s consent, and the suspect tried to stifle revelation by offering money.

In order to give the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions legal guidance, Magistrate N.A.S. Wahab postponed the case to July 25, 2025.
