Security operatives have apprehended a large number of armed political thugs amid the ongoing by-election in Kano State.
Ambassador Abdu Zango, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kano State, informed journalists that the suspects were intercepted while attempting to enter Bagwai, the location where voting was actively taking place.
Zango further mentioned that the transportation of election materials was almost obstructed by another group of thugs in the Shanono area.
According to him, it required swift action from the security forces to bring the situation under control.
Although Shanono has a history of election-related unrest, the REC noted that the strong security presence has so far ensured a peaceful voting process during the by-election.
