The Kano Police Special Squad shot and killed one of the city’s most wanted armed robbers, who was notorious for killing defenseless citizens whenever they felt like it.

Officers responded to a distress call on April 22, 2025, at around 1 pm, regarding an armed robbery of Gwammaja Quarters, Dala Local Government Area, led by suspect Halifa Baba-Beru, according to SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Police Command.

Kiyawa claims that when police arrived at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala LGA, Kano, the gang, commanded by Baba-Beru, was allegedly attacking defenseless civilians while brandishing hazardous weapons.

He said, “Upon arrival, the police team was attacked by the hoodlums, leading to a fierce fight. Two officers, CPL Abdullahi Ibrahim and S/C Yahaya Saidu, sustained injuries.

“The principal suspect, Baba-Beru, also sustained serious injuries. All parties were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where the suspect died while receiving treatment, and the officers were treated and discharged.”

The police command has looked into the event and is working harder to find the suspect’s co-conspirators.

“We assure the public that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice is served,” SP Kiyawa said.
