Bye-election: INEC presents Certificates of Return to winners

Seven winners of the Saturday, August 16, 2025, National Assembly bye-elections have received Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the presenting ceremony was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The newly elected lawmakers, who will serve as representatives from different constituencies across the nation in the Senate and House of Representatives, were given their certificates by the Commission’s National Commissioners.

The Certificate of Return was given to Mr. Nwachukwu Emmanuel Chibuzor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the victor of the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, by National Commissioner overseeing the South East, Mr. Kenneth Ukeagu.

Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe, the senator-elect for Edo Central, and Igbinedion Omosede Gabriella, the member-elect for Ovia Southwest in the House of Representatives, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), received Certificates of Return from National Commissioner Professor Rhoda Gumus.

Mukhtar Rabiu Garki, the APC candidate who won the Bubura/Garki seat in Jigawa State, received the certificate from Professor Abdullahi Zuru, the National Commissioner in charge of the North West.

Joseph Bagudu, who was chosen by the All Progressives Congress to represent the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, was given the certificate by Mal. Kudu Haruna.

Furthermore, Oyekunle Fola Sunday, who was elected to represent the APC in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, and Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola, who was elected to represent Ikene/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, both received Certificates of Return from Professor Kunle Ajayi, the National Commissioner overseeing the South West.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of each state are expected to present the Certificates of Return to the winners of the State Constituency bye-elections.
