Today, there was an attack on the convoy of former Anambra State governor Chris Ngige on the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in the Idemili North Local Government Area.
The former governor was not in the convoy when the attack occurred, according to a statement made by Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former media assistant.
However, a police officer in the pilot car was shot, and the accused attackers—who were allegedly wearing army and police uniforms—took his weapons and uniform.
Sadly, the gunmen shot and killed a woman who was filming the event on her phone.
A store owner who rushed to the area to look into the incident was also shot; he lost a lot of blood but will shortly have surgery to remove the bullets.
According to reports, his condition is stable, and a full recovery is anticipated. Bullets were all over the pilot car.
There were no fatalities among the police. The escort leader who was shot has already had surgery and is anticipated to make a full recovery. Fortunately, none of the bullets found their way into the shop owner’s spine.
“I spoke with His Excellency, Dr. Ngige, who confirmed the attack and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure adequate medical care for the injured,” stated Chukwuelobe.
“He also extended condolences to the family of the woman who was killed while recording the attack.”
An official statement regarding the incident has not yet been issued by the Anambra State Police.
