Lin Jian, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, called US President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” bullying and stated on Monday that pressure and threats are not the best ways to deal with China.

Speaking at a news conference, Lin emphasized that the tariffs are typical examples of protectionism, unilateralism, and economic bullying. She also added that US tariffs under the guise of reciprocity only benefit the US at the expense of other nations.

Remember that as part of his hefty levies on most US trading partners, Trump last week put an extra 34% tariff on Chinese goods, increasing the total tariffs on China this year to 54%.

However, China responded with a number of counterattacks.

The subject of whether China will negotiate with the United States was left to other groups by Lin.

According to ZINGTIE, since Saturday, US customs officials have began collecting Trump’s unilateral 10% duty on all imports from numerous nations.

“The abuse of tariffs by the United States is tantamount to depriving countries, especially those in the Global South, of their right to development.

“All countries should uphold consultation, joint construction and sharing, and “genuine multilateralism”, he said.

Lin also urged countries to jointly resist all types of unilateralism and protectionism, and maintain the international system and the multilateral trade system according to the United Nations and World Trade Organization values.
