Maryam Inna Ciroma, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC), has provided an explanation for why the party’s national chairperson ought to be from the North.
Ciroma stated that the chairperson position should be held by someone from the North because the party allocated the president to the South in an appearance on Prime Time, a show on Arise Television that ZINGTIE saw on Thursday.
“Actually, PDP zones positions and rotates the positions after four years. Positions are rotated between the North and the South.
“Since the zoning committee agreed that the president will come from the South, it now said the chairman of the party must come from the North.
“The Northern consensus had a meeting last week Friday on the position of the zoning that was sent to the North. Normally, it’s also micro-zoned and rotated.
“So, we agreed at the caucus meeting that positions that were allocated to North Central will now move to North West. North West will now move to North East. North East will now move to North Central.
“This means that the chairman of the party, even though Illiya Damagun was acting and was confirmed, is supposed to come from the North Central.
“We all agreed that the North West and North Central will have a meeting and decide on which zone in the North the chairman of the party will come from, and they agreed and endorsed former Minister Tanimu Turaki,” she said.
