Lionel Messi was unable to ignite Inter Miami as they played to a goalless draw against Al Ahly in the opening game of the 2025 Club World Cup.
The Egyptian team started the match at Hard Rock Stadium strongly, putting pressure on the hosts.
However, Inter Miami’s goalkeeper, Oscar Ustari, made several crucial saves to keep them at bay.
His standout moment came in the first half when he denied Trezeguet’s penalty, parrying the initial shot before collecting the weak rebound.
Messi showed more urgency in the second half, but Al Ahly’s goalkeeper, El Shenawy, was alert to block Tadeo Allende’s powerful close-range shot.
Messi then tested El Shenawy again with a fierce strike from just outside the box, forcing another fine save, and later curled a low free-kick from 35 yards just past the post.
Inter Miami will face Porto in Atlanta on June 19, while Al Ahly is set to take on Palmeiras in New Jersey on the same day.
