Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a firm ultimatum to contractors working on the Eleme–Onne axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State, demanding that the project be completed by December 15 or face penalties.
Umahi voiced his frustration during an on-site inspection, where he expressed disappointment with the sluggish progress of the construction.
He made it clear that the federal government would not accept any delays beyond the stated deadline.
“The pace of the work is totally not acceptable. And let me make it very, very clear to the contractor: this project can never be reviewed by a Kobo, neither can there be any POP—variation of price—or any other claims on the project.
“You complained of rain, but there are a lot of works that could go under the rain. For example, we’ve noticed a number of failures, areas that failed under this carriageway which is Port Harcourt-bound.”
The Minister criticized the delay, describing the situation as regrettable, and instructed the site controller to issue another formal warning to the construction firm responsible for the project.
