Nigeria’s recent history Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has reacted negatively to criticism of Buhari’s anti-corruption record.

Malami stated during his Tuesday night appearance on Arise news that the late president did not allow corruption to flourish while in office.

According to Malami: “During the period of President Muhammadu Buhari, corruption was not thriving at all,” Malami said firmly.

“If you talk of convictions associated with high-profile corruption cases, the government recorded convictions in thousands.”

According to the former AGF, Nigeria retrieved more than $2 billion in embezzled money while Buhari was in power.

He pointed out that in order to combat financial leaks, the Buhari administration has introduced structural reforms including the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

“He brought about the Single Treasury Account, which created a governance-wide visibility associated with funding the finances of the government,” he said.

Malami disclosed that organizations like the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the African Union, which dubbed Buhari the continent’s anti-corruption champion, praised his administration internationally.

One of Nigeria’s anti-corruption leaders is said to have been the late president.
