Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), disclosed the reason behind opposition leaders’ anger regarding the recently enacted Electoral Act.

During an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a show on Channels Television, Morkas stated that they are angry because the amendment to the Electoral Act undermines what he called a strategy to use real-time results transmission as a basis for contesting the 2027 general elections.

He remarked that important members of the opposition were displeased, as the amendment eliminated a ‘game plan’ for nullifying elections when real-time electronic result transmission is unfeasible.

“So, let me tell you very quickly why Peter Obi, Galadima and his friends in the opposition are livid about this amendment.

“They were hoping to sell this dummy to the National Assembly and to Nigerians: that unless results are transmitted in real time, that becomes grounds to invalidate the election in 2027. That was it – it was a game plan,” he said.

The national spokesperson for the APC added that those in opposition knew well that internet access is inconsistent throughout the country.

Morka stated, “Buba Galadima knows, Atiku Abubakar knows, Peter Obi knows, and David Mark knows that connectivity is not universal in all the territories and voting districts of Nigeria.”

His remarks came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2026 into law on Thursday.

The leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the African Democratic Congress, however, dismissed the new legislation as anti-democratic and biased towards the ruling party in light of the upcoming 2027 elections.
