Court grants bail to husband of victim allegedly raped by benefactor

Samaila Yusuf, the husband of a lady who accused Sani Mua’zu, a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigerian Immigration Service, of rape while he was in office, has been granted bail by a High Court in Bauchi State.

Lubabatu Yusuf Samaila, a 20-year-old housewife from Bauchi who happens to be her husband’s benefactor, filed a rape charge against Mua’zu, and ZINGTIE claims that she lamented her husband’s subsequent arrest.

She related the December 9, 2023, incident in which she was assaulted in her home by Muazu, who disregarded her requests for him to stop.

The woman claims that despite her protests, he attacked her in front of her frightened children.

This occurred after the victim requested Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s assistance about her accusation of rape against the Deputy Immigration Superintendent.

After 11 days of detention under Order XV Rule 4 of the Fundamental Human Rights (Enforcement Procedures) Rules 2009 of Section 45 of the 1999 Constitution, Yusuf was granted bail by Presiding Judge Justice L.K. Umar yesterday.

African Child Development and Human Rights Protection, a human rights organization, has petitioned the court in action No. BA/82M/2024 to implement the constitutional provision against violating Yusuf’s rights.

Barrister Mohamed Alkassim, the organization’s Country Director, fought for Yusuf’s rights after he came forward with the rape event involving his wife.

As a result, the Presiding Judge scheduled the Hearing of the Motion on Notice involving the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, and Muazu for February 29, 2024.
