Wale Ogunsanmi, 42, has been placed under detention by an Osogbo magistrate court for reportedly fatally stabbing Shina Olaribigbe, the founder of Rapture Empowerment International Church and a bishop.

Ogunsanmi was charged with one count of murder by the Osun State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The charge sheet, which was signed by B. Adaraloye, the chief of the state CID’s legal and prosecution department, and marked MoS/19c/2025, states that the crime took place in the Fan Milk neighbourhood of Ajegunle, Osogbo, on January 1, 2025, at around 8:55 p.m.

The charge reads: “That you, Wale Ogunsanmi, on the 1st of January, 2025, at about 8:55 p.m., at Fan Milk Area of Ajegunle, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawfully stab one Shina Olaribigbe to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Volume 1, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

Because the court lacked jurisdiction, it rejected the defendant’s plea.

The case was adjourned by Presiding Magistrate A. O. Odeleye, who also ordered Ogunsanmi to be held in Ilesa Correctional Centre for additional proceedings.

Ogunsanmi allegedly attacked the bishop after discovering him with his estranged wife, according to a previous ZINGTIE story.

According to reports, Ogunsanmi and the suspect’s wife, who works as an interpreter at the deceased’s church, had been estranged for a year because of marital problems.

Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, said, “The bishop was in the woman’s residence when her husband arrived and stabbed him several times. It is believed the suspect acted out of suspicion that the pastor was having an affair with his wife.”

Additionally, Opalola attested to the fact that Ogunsanmi and his spouse had been living apart for around a year.

Prior to the split, the bishop was allegedly active in mediation.

Ogunsanmi is accused of breaking into his wife’s home the night of the event and attacking the bishop while he was in the bedroom.

Dugbe Division police were on the scene quickly, took the man into custody, and found the weapon.

The body of the deceased was placed for autopsy at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Osogbo.
