The ruling of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which acknowledged Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has been overturned by the Supreme Court.

After concluding that the case’s core issue was the party’s leadership, a five-member panel of the highest court ruled unanimously on Friday that the Court of Appeal lacked the authority to name Abure as the LP’s National Chairman.

The court noted that Abure’s term had since ended and decided that leadership disputes are internal party matters that are outside the purview of the courts.

The appeal, which was deemed worthy by the Supreme Court, was filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and one other.

Additionally, it rejected the Abure faction of the LP’s cross-appeal as unworthy.
