A magistrate court in Kano, led by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan of Court No. 21, has handed down a one-year prison sentence to well-known TikTok creator Abubakar Usman Kilina.
The court also offered Kilina the alternative of paying a ₦100,000 fine, along with an additional ₦30,000 in compensation to the Kano State Film Censorship Board for what was described as “wasting the agency’s time.”
According to a report by Freedom Radio, Kilina’s conviction followed his appearance in a TikTok video that included cross-dressers, promoted content deemed inappropriate, and contained offensive language.
The case was brought forward by the Kano State Film Censorship Board, which accused the content creator of violating standards of public morality.
During the sentencing, Magistrate Hadiza issued a stern warning, advising Kilina to avoid future conduct that undermines societal decency. She emphasized that any repeat offense would result in the full prison term being enforced, without the option of a fine.
