One of the main opposition coalition parties in Cross River State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has charged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks vision and has misaligned its objectives in government.

The party claimed it was just six months old as a coalition, although being registered in 2005, in response to a recent publication by the Cross River State Consultative Forum, CRSCF, that condemned the stakeholders’ conference called by the ADC.

The ADC asserted that its actions have already unnerved the APC despite this brief time.

The ADC claimed that the CRSCF’s words were “empty propaganda” and that they were only an effort to deflect criticism of the APC-led government’s “ineptitude.”

“The people of Cross River State deserve better from the APC, instead of misplaced priorities and lack of vision,” the party said.

The CRSCF was challenged by the ADC to release the government’s manifesto and give a thorough breakdown of the money obtained from internal revenue, federal and local government allocations, tariffs, taxes, loans, and grants.

The party maintained, “We need the government to show citizens tangible results of what they have done with all the money.”

Additionally, the ADC charged that the APC government was engaging in “job placement scams,” in which people are supposedly forced to pay for job openings.

The practice has grown commonplace in the state, according to Dr. Effiong Nyong, the party’s national deputy press secretary and 2023 gubernatorial candidate.

The party also attacked the administration of Governor Bassey Otu for imposing several taxes, claiming that this has discouraged economic progress and forced firms out of the state.

Additionally, it criticized the government for ignoring the industrial projects of former Governor Ben Ayade, which the ADC claimed could have stimulated the state’s economy.

The ADC insisted that it will not be intimidated by what it called “cheap blackmail” by government agents, including the CRSCF.
