In Awka, the capital of Anambra State, a man known as Nonso was slain by suspected cultists on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, Nonso, the third son of a three-son household, lost two of his brothers in past instances that were linked to cultism.
According to a source, Nonso was assassinated on Friday afternoon in broad daylight close to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, also known as Amaku.
A close relative claims that Nonso’s death is connected to the murder of Buchi, his younger brother, who was killed three months ago near MacDon Eatery.
According to the informant, their oldest brother had also been brutally killed in an earlier attack. Their mother is left childless as a result of this series of events.
Cult-related murders have been common in Awka lately; 16 people were recently killed in Nibo, and seven more were killed in the Ifite Awka region.
The violence continues in spite of repeated promises from law police.
Nnaghe Obono Itam, the commissioner of police for Anambra State, has denounced the most recent murder and pledged a comprehensive investigation.
“We will leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” he said.
On Friday, the Ezinano Awka Community, under the leadership of Ozo Jeff Nweke, issued a warning to cultists to avoid Awka and its surroundings and offered a N10 million reward for those responsible for the Nibo Massacre.
