The Niger Army said on Thursday that Bakura, also known as Ibrahim Mahamadu, a well-known Boko Haram militant leader, had been slain in the Lake Chad Basin.
The Army said in a statement that the terrorist was targeted by a fighter jet early on August 15 and that he was a “feared leader” of the gang.
“Very early in the morning of August 15, an Air Force fighter aircraft launched three targeted and successive strikes on the positions Bakura used to occupy in Shilawa,” it added.
The Boko Haram leader, who was reportedly around 40 years old, was originally from Nigeria, the statement further disclosed.
According to reports, he became a member of the terrorist organization almost 13 years ago and succeeded Abubakar Shekau as head.
Shekau, a former Boko Haram leader, passed away in May 2021 amid jihadist infighting, according to ZINGTIE.
