Vice President Kashim Shettima has failed to move into his new official mansion, nearly a year after it was completed.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the home on June 7, 2024.
It was built for N21 billion, 14 years after the contract was given. The National Assembly approved an extra ₦15 billion for the residence in November 2023, following the initial approval of ₦7 billion in 2010. However, the Vice President has not spent a single day in the building since its completion.
According to those acquainted with the subject, the primary reason for the delay is security concerns.
According to sources, the location of the property is unsuitable for a high-profile national public official such as the Vice President. This raises concerns about the Vice President’s and his family’s safety and security. However, these assertions have yet to be officially confirmed.
The official home, handed over to the Presidency by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) government, has remained quiet. According to DailyTrust, a visit to the mansion on January 31, 2025 revealed only a few plainclothes security officers patrolling the house, with no evidence of activity in the area.
The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has certified that all work on the Vice President’s home has been finished and turned over to the Presidency.
