Diogo Jota, the Liverpool forward who tragically passed away on Thursday, had recently shared a tweet on his X account about his wedding ceremony with Rute Cardoso, which took place on June 22.
Earlier reports stated that Jota and his brother, Andre, were killed in a car crash in Zamora province, Spain.
The accident occurred when their Lamborghini veered off the road after a tyre burst while attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to a fire.
Liverpool later responded to the heartbreaking news, calling his loss “devastating.”
On June 28, 2025, Jota posted images on X from his wedding to his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. The ceremony was held in Porto on June 22, 2025.
Accompanying the pictures, he wrote: “June 22, 2025. Yes, forever.”
Spanish authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Jota became a Liverpool player in 2020 after moving from Wolves and went on to make 182 appearances for the club.
He celebrated the 2024/25 Premier League championship in May under Arne Slot’s leadership and had also won the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups during his time at Anfield.
