Public affairs analyst and activist Mahdi Shehu has once again criticized Nigeria’s political elite, describing the nation’s political framework as one driven by greed, deceit, and a lack of humanity.
In a lengthy post shared on X on Thursday, titled “DNA Sketching of Political Parties and Other Groups in Nigeria,” Shehu compared Nigeria’s major political parties to biblical figures and institutions, claiming they are motivated by selfishness and betrayal.
He asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is largely composed of individuals whose behavior reflects that of the scriptural Pharaoh, whose leadership was defined by tyranny, greed, manipulation, and an insatiable desire to hold onto power indefinitely.
He noted that though a few well-meaning members may exist within the party, the majority represent wickedness and a false sense of divinity.
“Naturally there will be few good ones, even if unknown and silent but preponderance of the party congregants are a clear reflection of the scripturally detailed PHAROAH whose reign was characterized by terror, greed, deception, dictatorship. wickedness and blind ambition to last forever and a delusional pretence to be God. Recall how PHAROAH was subsumed and Humiliated.”
Turning his attention to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu likened its members to repentant wolves still searching for prey, saying the party has suffered severe self-inflicted wounds. According to him, karma has been catching up with its members, leaving the party gasping for survival, destined to die without any religious leader willing to oversee its final rites.
Regarding the Labour Party (LP), Shehu acknowledged that while it contains some good individuals, it is plagued by envy, greed, betrayal, and treachery.
He accused certain members of compromising their ideals for financial gain, claiming some have placed a price on their loyalty and have already “collected and swallowed the forbidden fruit of dollars and naira.”
He went on to describe the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition of unlikely allies and long-time foes bound together by their desperation for power.
According to him, members of the party harbor resentment and hostility toward one another while pretending unity, driven by entitlement and ambition.
Commenting on smaller political parties, Shehu said they consist of a mix of individuals — the good, the bad, the greedy, and those struggling with poverty.
He added that most of these minor parties have little recognition beyond their local areas and often await election periods to make money before accusing others of electoral malpractice.
Citing James 4:1–4 from the Bible, Shehu concluded that Nigeria’s political turmoil stems from the selfish ambitions and greed of those who hold power.
“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight,” the verse reads in part.
Shehu added that these attitudes have turned life in Nigeria into one marked by suffering, fear, instability, deceit, selfishness, and a lack of compassion among people.
“Pity, sad, disgusting, and indeed a shame,” he concluded.
