Ebonyi: FRSC confirms abduction of two personnel by gunmen

Two of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ (FRSC) personnel were kidnapped by gunmen along the Abakaliki-Enugu federal highway, according to confirmation from the FRSC in Ebonyi State.

Due to the frequent kidnappings by gunmen, commuters are now at risk on some roads in Ebonyi and adjacent states.

The road’s Nkalagu (Ebonyi) and Idodo (Enugu) axes are the most seriously affected since kidnapping incidents are rising everyday.

Both personnel were kidnapped on March 8, according to Henry Igwe, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ebonyi, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday in Abakaliki. He claimed that after finishing their duties at the corps’ Nkalagu headquarters, both personnel were kidnapped and taken back to Enugu.

“Contacts were made and it was established by their families that they never got home. The families said that some people contacted them and said they were kidnappers and were demanding ransom. The negotiations are between the families and kidnappers and as an organisation, we have been doing as much as we can,” he said.
