Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has requested that Senator Monday Okpebholo, the incoming governor, assemble a transition committee thirty days before his term ends.

According to Obaseki, the new government’s transition team’s constitution was designed to facilitate communication with the transition team of his previous administration.

According to ZINGTIE, the State Government’s Secretary,

The call was made on Sunday by Joseph Eboigbe, who provided newsmen in Benin City with a statement.

According to ZINGTIE, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year, two-term reign will come to an end on November 12, 2024.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo, who won the September 21 2024 governorship election, would receive the government from him.

With a total of 291,667 votes, he defeated 17 other contenders, including Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was his closest challenger with 247,274 votes.

Eboigbe also stated in a letter dated October 10, 2024, addressed to the governor-elect, that the formation of the team would enable both sides to start important conversations and exchange crucial information that would guarantee a smooth transition of duties and continuity of government.

According to him: “As we prepare for the transition of power, we believe it is crucial to establish a smooth and effective collaboration between your team and our current administration.

“To facilitate this process, we invite you and your party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience.

“Establishing this team will allow us to begin meaningful discussions and share vital information that will ensure a seamless transfer of responsibilities and continuity of governance.

“We are committed to providing you with the necessary support and resources to make this transition as effective and efficient as possible. Consequently, 14th October 2024 is proposed for the inaugural meeting for members of both Transition Committees.”

“We look forward to your prompt response and to working closely with you and your team in the coming weeks. Together, we can set the foundation for a successful administration that meets the expectations of our constituents.”

The letter to the governor-elect, according to Eboigbe, was received by Mr. Joy Oyere, an administrative secretary of the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and has not gotten a response.

ZINGTIE recalls that in July 2024, Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, established a transition committee consisting of twenty members, directed by Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, the secretary to the state government, with the aim of facilitating a seamless transfer of authority and expertise to the next administration.
