The President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, has revealed that no fewer than 10,000 jobs have been lost in Rivers State as a result of the emergency rule imposed in the oil-producing region.
Prof. Okaba made this known during an appearance on Arise Television on Wednesday, while answering questions about the current situation in the state.
“With the suspension of the governor, deputy governor, and legislature, a form of dictatorship was effectively put in place, represented by the sole administrator appointed,” he said.
He explained that the suspension of the governor, deputy governor, and state legislature effectively created an authoritarian structure, with a sole administrator taking over governance.
It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in March, leading to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state assembly.
