Chelsea legend John Terry has identified four players he believes are indispensable to England’s hopes of lifting the FIFA World Cup following the Three Lions’ impressive Round of 16 victory over Mexico.
England secured their place in the quarter-finals after defeating one of the tournament’s co-hosts, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice and captain Harry Kane also finding the back of the net.
Speaking during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Terry highlighted Bellingham, Kane, Declan Rice and Reece James as the key leaders within Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
According to the former Chelsea captain, England cannot afford to lose any of the quartet through injury if they are to remain genuine contenders for the World Cup title.
“There’s leaders in the group. Harry Kane, we have seen that in his football career, Jude Bellingham at that young age doing that already, Declan Rice, I’m also including Reece James in that,” Terry said.
“They cannot get injured and have to be at the forefront of our success. Without those guys driving the team, driving the standards.”
England will continue their World Cup campaign on Saturday when they face Norway in the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
