EPL: ‘I’m surprised’ – Hasselbaink names Arsenal star that has proved him wrong

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a former Chelsea player, claimed that Leandro Trossard of Arsenal surprised him.

The tale of the Blues claimed that although he was first certain of Trossard, the Belgian has since shown him to be mistaken.

Trossard, 31, has made nearly 150 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2023.

During that period, he has 35 goals and 29 assists. In 25 games this season, he has contributed six assists and seven goals, demonstrating his importance to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Hasselbaink gave the Belgian a lot of praise even though he did not contribute to the Gunners’ 3-2 EFL Cup semi-final first-leg victory over Chelsea on Wednesday.

Speaking on Sky Sports through Metro, Hasselbaink stated, “With all due respect to Leandro Trossard, I’m surprised.

“At the beginning of the season, I thought they needed someone better in that role, but he’s done an amazing job.

“He’s filled that spot really, really well. He’s scored really big goals when it really mattered. He’s surprising me, and the only thing you can say is well done to him.

“I didn’t think he had the strength for it, but he’s keeping it up every week without missing a beat. He’s playing in front of Gabriel Martinelli as well, and I didn’t expect that to happen.”

Trossard, a vital member of Arteta’s midfield, played for 75 minutes against Stamford before being replaced by Gabriel Martinelli.
