Liverpool Football Club has responded to the passing of their forward, Diogo Jota.

Through a post on their official X account on Thursday, the club expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the Portuguese striker.

“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” Liverpool tweeted.

Jota and his brother, Andre, lost their lives in a car crash that occurred in Spain’s Zamora province on Thursday.

This heartbreaking incident comes less than two weeks after he tied the knot with Rute Cardoso in Porto, Portugal.

Jota, aged 28, was part of the squad that secured the Premier League title for Liverpool last season.

He had been on vacation in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign when the unfortunate event happened.

He is survived by his wife and their three children, and arrangements for his burial are expected to take place soon.
