Joao Felix, a Chelsea playmaker, has withdrawn from the Premier League match against Manchester City because of a family tragedy.
Felix was expected to play at the Etihad Stadium against Pep Guardiola’s team.
However, after a family tragedy, the Portugal international was granted compassionate leave and returned home by plane.
Under manager Enzo Maresca, Felix has made just 12 Premier League appearances this season.
Last summer, the former Barcelona player paid £46.3 million to join the Blues from Atletico Madrid.
In the No. 10 ranking, the 25-year-old has lagged behind Cole Palmer.
Felix’s lack of consistent playing time in the Premier League has prompted rumors that he would leave Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window ends.
During his pre-game interview yesterday, Maresca discussed the reasons behind Felix’s lack of playing time this season and called the player “fantastic.”
